Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the Scheme service take?

From the time of the initial consultation, we generally estimate it will take as little as two weeks for the design plan.

How much do people typically spend on furniture, art & accessories for a room?

You set the budget you want to spend on products. We design each space down to the tiniest details—even if it means some items may need to land on your wish list for later. We always attempt to get all of your essential pieces like seating, rugs, and a few design accents into whatever budget you set. We want you to be thrilled with your design plan!

What if I need additional help with some other odds and ends?

Our designers are happy to perform additional design services outside of the project scope at an hourly rate if you need them. Let us know what you have in mind and we can discuss your options!

What if an item is no longer available when I’m ready to buy it?

We suggest that you try to purchase the items you like as soon as possible. Retailers tend to cycle products seasonally, so many of the accessories might not be available as the seasons change. Our design team is happy to provide some alternate options within 30 days of your design presentation if an item goes out of stock.

Remodeling FAQ

What’s the first step?

We always start with an initial consultation where we meet you on-site (if possible) and learn everything we can about your project. After that, we’ll provide a detailed estimate that shows a low & high range of about how much you can expect to pay for our interior design services.

How much does hiring an interior designer cost?

There are a number of factors that impact the cost of design services including the size, complexity, and pace of your project. We have a detailed project process and timeline that help our projects run smoothly and efficiently. When the project is well planned and runs on schedule, cost goes down substantially.

Commercial remodel clients spend an average of $10-25K* on design services when our team is involved in the project from start to finish.

Residential remodel clients spend an average of $10-15K* on design services when our team is involved in the project from start to finish.

*It’s important to note that we also offer design services at an hourly rate if your project scope needs tailored design assistance on additional aspects of the project.

Scheme plans that address furniture, accessories, and art are a flat fee of $3,499 per room.

Why is another designer charging less for their services?

Our team has the experience and education to help you avoid expensive mistakes and oversights during your design project. All of our interior designers have accredited degrees in Interior Design, knowledge of health, safety, and accessibility codes, and possess the ability to utilize AutoCAD, SketchUp, Illustrator, and Photoshop to give our clients all the tools they need to visualize their space before it is built. Though it may take more time, we feel projects are most successful when the client is involved in the collaboration from the start so that the end result is something you are truly thrilled with.

We avoid all kinds of shady business practices that some interior designers have traditionally utilized: hidden product mark-ups, contractor and vendor referral kick-backs, low time investment on your project, unexpected additional extra fees and costs. Transparency is among our core values; you’ll see it in our design process, our pricing, and our daily interactions.

When should we enlist the services of a designer?

The earlier the better! We love to help create the initial vision for the space, and the more time we have to get your project scheduled, the better.

How long does the remodeling design process take?

The timeline of our design process varies depending on the scope and size of your project. Following your initial consultation, we will provide a proposal outlining the projected scope of work and a rough estimate of the timeline.

Product lead times vary, but generally you can expect furniture to be about 8-12 weeks (for online orders). Quick-ship items can be procured in 2-6 weeks, but options are very limited—you may find what is available in that time frame looks like what everyone else already has.

Can you refer us to a good Contractor? Architect? Painter? Etc.?

Absolutely! We have long standing relationships with the professionals who we trust. We’ve got high standards when it comes to keeping our clients happy, so we only work with the best. We don’t take referral kickbacks either; we just think they’re the best in the industry!

Will you work with my existing contractor?

Absolutely! We’re always looking to build our professional network.

My Contractor/Architect offers design services; why should I hire an independent Interior Designer?

Each party has interests at stake in the project, and you need someone who knows construction there to advocate on your behalf. Clients can be quite vulnerable when it comes to the issues that may arise during a project, and we can be there to make sure that you aren’t being taken advantage of. We know what needs to be done to keep a project on time and on budget, and we enjoy helping our clients drive their projects forward to success.
