Eclectic Boss Babe Bungalow

This space was made for living. The 100% wool rug is pet friendly for spills and accidents. The sofa is made with a brushed velvet with notable texture and subtle shine thanks to its chenille yarns. It’s Greenguard Gold certified and suitable for high-traffic use (tested up to 100,000 rubs). It’s also machine-washable which is key when you have a canine roommate.

The shelving unit near the kitchen provides extra storage for many meaningful items that we wanted to display. The books and some of the plants shown were inherited from a grandparent. The oil paintings depict scenes in Flagstaff, AZ and were thrifted during an adventure. We gathered all the bottles into a blue lacquer tray and citrus into a bright red vintage, handmade ceramic bowl to minimize clutter.

The goal of this area was to create a gathering space for a group of dear friends around the island to cook and eat together, so we added four leather counter stools along the island. Again, we have a very modern backdrop with black quartz countertops and crisp white walls, so we layered in a lot of natural colors and textures to soften the space. There wasn’t much storage in the small space, so we added this West Elm shelving unit to house some books, a record player, a bar, and an array of meaningful objects. You’ll see plants throughout the space adding life and fresh air.

Organized Entry

Organization is key in a small space, so we ordered this wall hanging organizer from Etsy to serve as a drop zone near the entryway. Above it you’ll see two triangular wood-framed mirrors from Urban Outfitters. We opted to hang one upside down for a little visual interest. The lava lamp and vintage brass camels nod to the late ‘60s/early ‘70s.

This is our favorite part of the project. The inspiration for the project was to honor the past, while creating a space for the future to unfold. We framed existing indie, folk, and rock concert posters and meaningful art to create this large-scale gallery wall that reflects the unique life experiences and interests of the person living there. The concert posters range from indie music, funk, folk, and rock. The art is just as eclectic with vintage family photos, tapestries gathered from world travel, tattoo artist sketches, and national park themed graphic art. The color palette was designed to elicit mountain memories of adventures in the deep forest, alpine lakes and glacial streams.

We opted for an extra deep army green sectional in a durable velvet fabric to gather friends and family comfortably. The retro bamboo, brass, and rattan coffee table nods to a 70’s global vibe.

The moon art exists as a reminder of the wild in this city dwelling. We added the brass watering can in front of the plants for a hint of shine and a reminder to keep those things hydrated! You’ll see plants throughout the space, adding a restorative and healing feeling to the space. A classic slab style cabinet, white subway tile backsplash and black quartz countertop create a modern backdrop for the space. The extra large, stainless steel undermount sink makes every day tasks like watering the plants, bathing the dog, or doing the dishes quite pleasant. The sink faces out into the living space so it’s easy to get your chores done while you entertain.

Mid-Century Modern Dining Area

Mid-Century Modern Dining Area

We started with a very modern Eero Saarinen tulip table, a classic design piece. Then we layered mid-century style wishbone chairs with a bohemian printed seat cushion around it to make it feel more approachable. We selected an Anthropologie lighting pendant with a modern shape, but earthy twine material to add texture and warmth. The plants wanted a window seat, so we incorporated a small industrial table for them to thrive. We also added a large scale round mirror on the wall that bounces light around the space and mimics the round shape of the table on the wall. Lastly, we topped the table with kitschy orange placemats and a handmade ceramic bowl from local boutique Practical Art.

In the bedroom, we selected this acacia wood Drommon platform bed with a leather headboard designed by Jannis Ellenberger for CB2. We topped it with textural army green linen bedding for a lived in look. We flanked each side of the bed with a petrol blue nightstand. It’s made of metal, so there’s no need to worry about rings from glasses, spills or scratches. We were limited on space on this wall, so we needed to find a nightstand that would allow space for a king size bed, but also offer storage. We opted for a leggy nightstand to increase the visible floor space- making the space feel a touch larger. Topping the nightstands are two vintage brass table lamps that were passed down family heirlooms. Above the bed, we placed a black and white acrylic depiction of the Sonoran Desert. Next to the bed is a woven leather rag rug.
